So I got crafty and made blankets for my children. Truthfully, I went to JoAnn Fabrics and got some of their ultra-cuddle fleece. All I had to do is sew the ends and I was done. 🙂

Both kids love them. I wanted a blanket for Alex that was somewhere between a sheet (which he hates) and his winter comforter (which he was using in the middle of summer!). The fleece was exactly what I was looking for. And if I made one for Alex, you know Beth was going to want one too. So I made them both twin-sized blankets that they can use for years to come.

Alex’s is “Cars”:

Beth’s is “Hello Kitty”:

  1. The desire to sew has finally hit.The blankets look great. Now you need to make curtains!

  2. I am glad to see you are following the family tradition of sewing. My Mother was a great seamstresss. I however, am a pitiful seamstres. Keep up the good work

  3. I messed so many projects up and was having so much trouble with my machine that I gave it up for a while. Mom’s still waaaay better than I am, but I’m trying!

    Very funny mother!

  4. Totally forgot about the dress! (It’s for this winter, right?)

Next summer I’m planning to make Beth a sundress or two out of that fabric you can buy that’s already pre-smocked. One seam up the back and a couple of straps and we’re good to go! The only catch is whether or not it will be long enough to be a dress, or if it’s going to end up a long shirt that she has to wear shorts/leggins under.

  5. That material comes in different lengths. Some of it is long enough to make you a sundress.

  6. Love all your comments! Great thinking Shannon on making what the kids want. Can’t wait to see Beth’s dress that Leigh is making. Love all of you,
