More Updates on Elizabeth

So it’s been awhile, as usual. Thought I should catch up again. Someone in the house has been sick since Halloween (starting with Beth), so it’s been a rough couple of weeks.

Beth is totally sitting up on her own. She even goes from sitting to laying on her tummy and back to sitting. She’s not quite crawling forwards yet, but I think she’s really close. She’s got backwards down pat. She manages to move around a bit by flopping forward and getting back to sitting and then flopping forward again, so she gets mostly to where she wants to go. I’m beginning to think that she’s not going to ever crawl in the traditional sense. But that’s perfectly OK.

She has six teeth now. The two on the bottom were first and then the four front top broke though. She’s had them for at least 3-4 weeks now.

We’ve started feeding her more table food. She still gets a lot of baby food simple because it’s easier than cutting things into tiny little pieces, but I’ve been trying to at least make her dinners the same as what we’re eating. Turns out she doesn’t take after me after all because she loves her peas. Yuck!

She’s starting to eat a little less now. Hopefully her weight gain is slowing because at 24 pounds, she’s quite heavy to carry around. I’m actively encouraging her to try walking simply because I don’t want to carry her!

I continue to use some of the baby sign-language and I think she’s starting to sign “more” and “all-done”. Sometimes I’m not totally sure because she does “all done” (probably because I just did it), but then opens her mouth for more food.

She says “Mama” a lot now, and not much else. Even “Dada” seems to have tapered off.

She’s sleeping much better all around. We almost never rock her to sleep anymore, even for naps. Just give her the pacifier and she’ll go to sleep. In the last few weeks, naps have become about 45 minutes long. Way better than 20 minutes. She usually does that twice a day. Not always though, so it’s still hard to get housework done because you just don’t know how long she’ll sleep. At night she’s usually in bed between 7:30 and 8:00 and she sleeps until anywhere between 6am and 7:30am. I even had to wake her up a few times last week to get ready for daycare. And I think there was one Sunday where she let us sleep until 8:00!

She’s more content to be alone now. Sometimes in the morning, I can hear her in the crib, but she’s not crying. She doesn’t always need to have someone in the room with her, although it is still her preference. She’s content to be in a room with just Alex, where it used to have to be Mommy or Daddy.

Beth just loves her brother. All he has to do is something silly near her, and she smiles and giggles. The other day he was actually playing with her for about 10 minutes. A record for him! Usually she’s just happy to have him playing in the room, but that day he was actually interacting with her. Progress! Alex isn’t quite as enamored with her as she is with him, but it will come.

I can’t think of anything else right now, but I’m sure there’s things I’ve missed. Post a question and I’ll post an answer!

  1. Grandpa really wants to know if she likes trains as much as Alex does. That would be a real plus for him!

  2. I think you are doing a great job of reporting. You should have been a journalist mom!

    Keep up the good work,

    Love, Aunt Lynn

  3. Since we tend not to take her to play trains yet, she hasn’t shown a tendency towards them. I’m not looking forward to making Alex share his trains with her! That’s the one toy we consistently have issues with at playgroup.
