Jack-O-Lantern

As I was posting pictures of the kids for Halloween, I realized I left out a story. The afternoon of trick-or-treating, we always carve a pumpkin with Jenna. This year was to be no exception, and Eric had bought the pumpkin the day before. He put it on the dining room table to be carved after Alex went down for his nap. Unfortunately, Alex found the pumpkin interesting, and unbeknownst to us, he had crawled up on a chair and was rolling the pumpkin around the table. The stem had already fallen off in Eric’s trunk, so there was nothing to slow it down. Suddenly, we hear a loud thud. We all went running towards the sound. Fortunately, the sound wasn’t Alex hitting the floor, but rather the pumpkin. Said pumpkin now had quite the split across the top of it. We decided that it was still carveable and put it on the kitchen counter. When it came time to carve, Jenna said something about taping the split shut and Eric said jokingly “Or we could staple it”. I looked at him and went to get the staple gun. We ended up with Franken-pumpkin.

  1. Alex just wanted to help “carve” the pumpkin. He’d already heard that it was happening when he was napping, so time was of the essence! Good Job, Alex. Nice thought about the staples, Eric. After all, that’s what they did to Alex when he split his head open. (Maybe that was Alex’s thought, make the pumpkin look like him!)

  2. FrankenBaby wanted a FrankenPumpkin. Very creative on his part, I’m sure you guys were the only house on the block with such detail. Martha Stewart, eat your heart out.

  3. you carved pumpkins… i am impressed… ours are still sitting on the counter. apparently, if we wait long enough, they will carve themselves. or at least become a fine example of Amazing Oozing Art.

  4. Alex is so on the move…look out mom and dad for more intereting events. I found Chris on top of the refrigerator when he wa 18 months old. Said crawled on top of a chair to the top of a free standing cupboard and onto the top of the refrigerator!

Glad it was not Alex who hit the floor. Would hate to see a row of staples in his head like the pumpkins.

  5. Loved the staples idea….Franken-pumpkin is cute & original. Thanks as always for sharing your life with us. We love and miss you all.
