Alex called me mama yesterday. I know this sounds like a strange statement from the mother of a two year old, but up until now, Alex did not use ‘mama’ and ‘dada’ to mean me and Eric. Those were just sounds he babbled – “mamamamama’ & ‘dadadadada’. Yesterday Barb and Alex were waiting on the front porch for me. When I got out of the car, Alex said ‘mama’ and paused. Then ‘mama’ again. So for the very first time, he was addressing me instead of babbling.

  1. This is VERY exciting. Soon he will be speaking so much it will be hard for you to remember when he couldn’t.

  2. I am really glad for you. I once heard that the first 2 years of a child’s life you teach them to walk and talk and the next several years telling them to sit down and be quiet.

  3. Wait till he takes after his mother and starts telling you that’s only h— the word!

  4. You do realize that once He starts talking, He’ll probably never shut up. (And let’s hope His signing involves more than certain hand gestures.)
